About This Tour

Swat Valley sits in the upper reaches of the Swat River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has been attracting visitors since the days of Alexander the Great, who passed through here in 327 BC. The Gandhara civilisation flourished in this valley for centuries, leaving behind Buddhist stupas, monasteries and rock carvings that still dot the hillsides today. Mingora, the main town, is surrounded by history while the valley above it climbs through increasingly dramatic scenery all the way to Kalam.

The upper Swat around Kalam is where the valley earns its Swiss comparison. Dense Deodar cedar forests line the Swat River as it narrows and quickens. Side valleys like Ushu and Gabral lead to high meadows and passes. Mahodand Lake, two hours by 4x4 above Kalam, is a wide, bright blue alpine lake with mountains on three sides and almost no development. Malam Jabba, with Pakistan's only ski resort, adds a winter dimension. All tours depart from Lahore.
