About This Tour

Deosai means "land of giants" in the Shina language, and standing in the middle of it you understand exactly why. The plateau sits at an average elevation of 4,114m above sea level, making it the second-highest plateau in the world after Tibet. It covers over 3,000 square kilometres of open, rolling grassland with no trees — just sky, peaks and the most extraordinary wildflower display in Pakistan during July and August, when hundreds of species bloom simultaneously across the entire plateau floor.

Deosai National Park was established in 1993 specifically to protect the Himalayan brown bear, which had been hunted almost to extinction. Today the population has recovered to over 50 individuals and sightings, while not guaranteed, are genuinely possible from July to September. The park also hosts wolves, red foxes, golden marmots, snow leopards and over 100 bird species. At its heart is Sheosar Lake — a glacial mirror lake that reflects the mountains above it in conditions of total stillness. This tour combines Deosai with Skardu as your base. All tours depart from Lahore.

Tour Highlights

🌿

Wildflower Plateau

In July and August the entire plateau floor erupts with hundreds of wildflower species in simultaneous bloom — one of Pakistan's most extraordinary natural events.

🐻

Himalayan Brown Bear

The national park was created to protect this rare species. Sightings are possible Jul–Sep when bears emerge from their dens to graze on the plateau.

🐄

Sheosar Lake

A glacial lake at 4,114m whose perfectly glassy surface mirrors the mountains and sky above it on still mornings.

🌟

Stargazing at 4,000m

Zero light pollution and altitude combine for some of the finest stargazing in Pakistan. The Milky Way is visible with the naked eye on clear nights.

🍇

Bara Pani River

The river that crosses the plateau, famous for its large brown trout — some of the finest trout fishing in South Asia.

🐇

Wildlife — Fox, Marmot, Wolf

Golden marmots stand upright beside the road watching passing vehicles. Red foxes, wolves and snow leopards also inhabit the park.
