Is Pakistan Safe for Foreign Tourists?

The short answer is yes — and travellers who make it here consistently say it was safer, friendlier and more welcoming than they ever expected. Northern Pakistan in particular, the region covering Gilgit-Baltistan, Hunza, Skardu and Azad Kashmir, is genuinely well-suited to international visitors and has been receiving foreign trekkers and adventurers for decades.

Pakistan has a long tradition of hospitality. The Pashtun concept of melmastia — unconditional generosity toward guests — runs deep across the north. Foreign visitors consistently remark on how welcomed they feel. Our job is to make sure you feel that from the moment you arrive.

Visa & Entry for Foreign Tourists

Pakistan has made it significantly easier for foreign tourists to visit in recent years. Here's what you need to know.

📜

e-Visa Online

Most nationalities can apply for a Pakistan tourist e-visa online through the Government of Pakistan's visa portal. Processing typically takes 2–10 working days. We can provide a support letter to strengthen your application.

Visa on Arrival

Citizens of several countries, including many in the Middle East and some Asian nations, are eligible for a visa on arrival at Islamabad International Airport. Check current eligibility before travelling.

🏔

Trekking Permits

Restricted zones such as K2 Base Camp and some high-altitude routes require a separate trekking permit and sometimes a special visa class. We handle all permit applications as part of your tour package.

💬

We'll Help You

Not sure which visa applies to your nationality? WhatsApp Ahmad with your passport country and travel dates and we'll tell you exactly what you need and how to get it.

🏥

Support Letter

Union Treks can issue an official support letter confirming your tour booking in Pakistan. This can be submitted alongside your visa application and often strengthens approval chances.

🛡

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering emergency evacuation, medical cover and trip cancellation. We can recommend reputable providers that cover Pakistan and high-altitude trekking.
